The Tesla Model S, which goes on sale Friday, will feature a 17 inch touchscreen said to be the largest available in a passenger car today.
The touchscreen infotainment and navigation system will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra VCM computing platform, which provides the electric sedan with an instrument panel that can be personalized, interactive high-resolution visuals and a multifunction steering wheel.
Nvidia, which specializes in high-performance graphics processors, said its Tegra VCM is characterized by high graphics quality, increased multimedia capability and low energy consumption. At the center of the Tegra VCM platform is a multicore ARM CPU coupled with an ultra-low-power Nvidia GeForce GPU and dedicated audio, video and image processors.
Tesla, which makes only full electric vehicles, designed the Model S from the ground up as an electric car. The Model S can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds. The car comes with three battery pack options.
Dan Vivoli, senior vice president at Nvidia, said in a press release that the inside of the Model S is “one of the most sophisticated consumer electronics devices ever built.”
